America 250

America 250

2026 represents 250 years since the United States ventured out into the unknown territory of being an independent country. I’ve spent the last year and a half exploring American history from two different aspects.

In 2024, I started a new content series, “American Through the Eyes of the Presidency.” I spent the year focusing on each administration, from Washington through Obama. Before starting the series, I was inspired by how little it seems Americans know about their history. So, for each administration, I wanted to put the president and history into context. I started with what was going on in the world and domestically at the time each president was inaugurated. Then, I went on to detail what all went on during the president’s time in office.

After election day, I did some content on election statistics leading up to the end of the year.

Starting in January 2025, I launched a new part of the series, “Vice Presidents & Political Events.” The goal was to (re)introduce readers to our former Vice Presidents and go over political events from each administration. The first part of the series that focused on administrations often had big events that couldn’t be covered in a video that was supposed to span an entire administration.

As I got started, not only did I cover men who often had very little influence, but also events most don’t know a ton about. These include both notable moves, such as the Louisiana Purchase, and lesser-known moments such as the Panic of 1819.

I got about 70 years, and 6 real months, in before I hit the Civil War. Perhaps unsurprisingly, I’ve only gotten 1 year into the war after 6 months of making content about it nearly daily.

This feels like a great time to take a breather from the heaviness that is the Civil War and go into my next series, America 250.

For someone who makes US history content, this is the opportunity of a lifetime. I mean, it just so happens that this monumental milestone is happening when I’m already making regular content about American history. I saw this as a chance to talk about the timeline from a bit of a different perspective. Less focus on presidents and more on the evolution of a nation.

The way I’ve planned to tackle the beast of centuries is to divide the year into eras. Each month will revolve around a particular era. Here’s a preview of what the next 12 months will be themed as:

  1. Before America
    Prehistory, Indigenous civilizations, colonial roots
  2. The Experiment Begins
    1776–1789
  3. Growing Pains
    1789–1815
  4. Expansion & Tension
    1815–1849
  5. Breaking Point
    1849–1865
  6. Rebuilding & Rising
    1865–1917
  7. America Goes Global
    1917–1945
  8. Power, Prosperity, Protest
    1945–1964
  9. Trust Fractures
    1964–1980
  10. The Modern Shift
    1980–1991
  11. The Unsettled Era
    1991–2016
  12. Living History
    2016–present

If you follow along, you’ll see our heritage in a whole new light by the time 2026 comes to a close. Then, in January 2027, I’ll pick back up with the Civil War and battle it out through modern times in a continuation of my Vice President and Political Events series. But if it’s taken me 6 months to get 1 year into the Civil War, who knows how long this series will go before I make it to modern times. 🤔

Anyway, if you have a passion for history, the United States, or learning – I invite you to join along with me here or on your favorite social media platform. Right now, the official timeline is on TikTok. I post history content on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube as well, but they are all in different places. Starting with America 250, all platforms will pause where they’re at and we’ll all be moving forward together.

See you in 2026!
